Charles has dedicated many years to the telecoms industry. He was a former Chairman of the GSMA Security Group, having served in that role for 25 years. He also worked as Senior Manager of Corporate Security for British Telecom for 20 years. He designed satellite security systems in 1979, he chaired the group that designed the GSM algorithms in 1986, and he designed some of the public key protocols in use today. He was involved in the setting of security standards that became ISO 27000. He has worked for the mobile operator one2one (now part of EE) where he set up their Security Department, and then worked in the UK Government for over 12 years. He received an OBE for his contribution to telecommunications security.
Charles is still very busy in the telecoms security space. He currently holds several positions in the industry, including: Chairman at Floor51 Ltd; Chairman of Zeata Security Ltd; Director at Azenby; and Chairman of TC CYBER at the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
RAG London 2018 will be graced by Charles’ presence, where he will contribute to panel discussion about the current state of security and also to our closing Wise Heads panel.
